At home with: Pinot Grigio & Prawn Dumplings

At home with: Pinot Grigio & Prawn Dumplings

Delicate, fragrant, and ready faster than your local takeaway.

Prawns, chives, and a steamy little dumpling — simple, satisfying, and made even better with a crisp Pinot Grigio. This recipe feels light and bright, perfect for a midweek dinner when you don’t want to fuss too much, but just showy enough to bring out when friends are gathered around the table.

Prawn & Chive Dumplings

Ingredients: (Serves 4)

  • 300g raw prawns, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp chopped chives
  • Dumpling wrappers

Method:

  1. Mix prawns, soy, sesame oil, and chives.
  2. Fill wrappers, seal, and steam for 6–8 minutes.
  3. Serve with soy dipping sauce and a glass of Pinot Grigio.

Wine pairing:

Red Hill Estate’s Cool Climate Pinot Grigio

Why it works:

The wine’s citrus and pear lift the delicate prawn filling, while its minerality mirrors the freshness of the dish.

Wine tasting notes:

  • Mood: Fresh, friendly, and uncomplicated.
  • Experience: Crisp citrus and pear, finishing clean and refreshing.
  • Occasion: Seafood, pasta, Asian takeaway – or simply passing bread around the table.
  • Serving Temp: Best at 7-10°C. Cool enough to feel zippy, warm enough to let the fruit shine.
