In 2016 there was an excellent winter and early spring rainfall that was able to fill the soil profile. Weather conditions through summer were cool. Mild weather through march resulted in steady ripening.
- Vineyard Notes
This wine comes from two section of our Merricks Grove vineyard which is situated on the South Eastern Hills, on the Mornington Peninsula. The vines are planted north south and come from the F block (MV6) and D block.
- Winemaking
Hand harvested fruit was destemmed and underwent a cold maceration for 3 days. Primary fermentation occurred in open fermenters which included cap management by hand plunging every 6 – 8 hours. Once pressed off, the wine was placed into French oak barrels for 24 months in a mixture of new and old oak.
- Tasting Notes
Our Cellar Door Pinot Noir has a delicate perfume lift of dark cherries, bright red berries, earthiness and spice, chocolate and oak with a persistent seductive palate of raspberries, black cherry with gamey and earthy notes integrated by fine silky tannins enveloped by elegant French oak from the high quality barrels it was aged in.
- Peak Drinking / Cellaring Potential
Careful cellaring will ensure longevity.
Primary fruit flavours will predominate when young with more savoury elements developing with age.
Cellar for 5 – 10 years.
