2007 Red Hill Estate Pinot Grigio Tasting Notes
Pinot Grigio is mostly grown in Italy and the Alsace in France, where they produce styles ranging from delicate and high acid to big, rich and oily. It is a grape that thrives in the cool maritime climate of the Mornington Peninsula.
Fruit These Pinot Grigio grapes were picked from 9 vineyards in the Mornington Peninsula, including Main Ridge,, Red Hill, Dromana and Moorooduc.
Maturation The fruit is gently pressed with minimal delay and juice was fermented cool to preserve delicate aromas, no malolactic fermentation was allowed. This treatment showcases delicate aromas and clean fruit. A portion of the juice was fermented in old French barriques and was left on lees post completion developing a complex rich textured parcel.
Technical Analysis Alcohol 12.5%.
Best Drinking This wine will hold its current style for two or three years before getting further layers of complexity due to bottle aging. It should continue to improve, developing further honey and nutty characters for several years.
Bouquet and Palate The wine has a delicate nose with a complement of apple blossom, rose petal and honey. The delicacy continues with a soft and supple palate featuring a symphony of pears freshened by some lovely natural acidity.
